Risborough Area Community Action (RACA) has been set up with the aim of promoting the Risborough area for residents and visitors alike.
RACA is supported by Bucks County Council, Wycombe District Council and Princes Risborough Town Council and includes representatives from local community organisations. RACA's objective is to raise awareness of the Risborough Area,
thereby increasing tourism and economic activity. The Kop Hill Climb Project is just one of the events being organised by RACA.
This Revival of the Kop Hill Climb, under the leadership of Tony Davies, was begun in 2009 and continued in 2010, the centenary year. For Kop Hill Climb2011 there is a new Organising Committee consisting of motorsport enthusiasts, local volunteers and students from Buckinghamshire New University in High Wycombe. Anyone interested in joining an enthusiastic team, or can help on the day, or on the run up to the event, should contact the organiser Peter Lewis.
The revival of Kop Hill Climb is run in association with the British Motorsport Marshals Club (BMMC). Without marshals, Kop Hill, or any other motorsport event, could not take place.
From the paddock to the hill, marshals ensure the event runs smoothly.
The marshals job is essential, providing administrative functions and life-saving safety cover.
It's the closest you can get to the action without being sat in the driving seat!
Marshalling is for anybody who is interested in and wants to be involved in motorsport.
If you would like to find out more about becoming a marshal just click on the BMMC logo.
The Peacock at Henton, has been associated with the Kop Hill Revival from the beginning. Whilst the organisers cannot accept any liability for the service provided we would be happy to use the hotel ourselves. Please mention Kop Hill when booking, rooms have been reserved and the Peacock is donating their booking fee to our charities.

- Classic Vehicles (before 1973)
- Car and Bike Clubs
Secretaries of Car or Bike Clubs may register their club and book space in the paddock to display members vehicles together with the usual flags, banners and stalls. There is no charge for this service. Please contact Mike Greasby (or telephone 07753 742855) with an estimate of the numbers involved.
Individuals or members of Registered Clubs wishing to pre-book and park in the paddock should click the "Pre-Book" tab on the left hand menu.
- The cost for a car is £15 per day, which includes one passenger (extra passengers charged £5 on the day).
- The cost for bikes is £8 per day.

Those booking on both days could stay locally and make a weekend of it by clicking on the left-hand "Accommodation" tab.
We are extremely grateful to our commercial Sponsors, Traders and Advertisers who all contributed to the success of our Centenary Event in 2010.
- 350 vehicles tackled the hill.
- 300 extra vehicles on display in the paddock.
- 8000+ spectators.
- £30,000 donated to charity.
Kop Hill's reputation is growing, drawing in crowds from Princes Risborough and the surrounding area, increasing numbers from the larger conurbations of Aylesbury and High Wycombe, and those interested in motorsport from a much wider area.
There are commercial opportunities for sponsors, traders and advertisers to link themselves with this expanding successful event.
The links on the left menu
- show the 2011 Paddock Map which brings traders nearer the action.
- give more information and the contacts needed to associate yourself with Kop Hill Climb2011.
There is no dress code at Kop Hill Climb2011.
However, if you would like to come in period clothing it would add to the fun, spectacle and atmosphere; you would not be on your own!
Drivers and mechanics could be in white overalls.
Some of the ladies in period clothes matching that of the car.
Spectators could enter into the spirit of this historic event on the Chilterns and join in with country clothes. How about it?
If all that fails we are selling our own Caps, T-shirts, Polo shirts and Hoodies at the event and on our
shop. Just click on "KHC Shop" on the left menu.
As predicted, Kop Hill Climb2011 is a sell out, and no more vehicles can be accepted. One or two places have been reserved for the late entry of very special vehicles. For consideration as a late entry please email entrants@kophillclimb.info
Entries will be accepted from pre-war vehicles only. Priority will be given to older vehicles that could have competed in the early days of the Hill Climb. To enable as many drivers as possible to enjoy the hill post-war vehicles have been limited to either Saturday or Sunday. A few modern exotic cars will be invited.
However, if you are too late or your entry for the climb is not accepted do not give up. We have organised for classic cars and motorcycles to be displayed in a separate area within the paddock. For more details click on the "Classics/Clubs" tab at the top of the page.
The Entry fees for the hill are
- Motorcars £25 for one day and £40 for two.
- Motorcycles £12.50 for one day and £20 for two.
The fee includes
- a copy of the Souvenir Programme.
- a Kop Hill Climb2011 event plate.
- for motorcars, the driver and one passenger. Extra passengers are £5 collected at the gate (under 12s free).
The area in the paddock where entrants will be parked is shown on the "Paddock Map" tab and the entry process is started by clicking on the "Registration" tab. Kop Hill merchandise is on sale at our our
shop.
For those booking both days why not stay locally and make a weekend of it by clicking on the "Accommodation" tab.
Kop Hill, Princes Risborough is one of the oldest Hill Climb venues in England,
it was one of several hill climbs in the Chilterns and the first recorded races were in 1910. It became a major event on the motor sports car and motorcycle calendar and many famous names had runs up the hill;
such as Malcolm Campbell in his 12hp Talbot 'Blue Bird', Raymond Mays (Bugatti), Henry Segrave (2 litre Grand Prix Sunbeam), Count Zborowski (8 cylinder Ballot) and Archie Frazer Nash (KimII).
The fastest time recorded for a car was in 1922 when Count Zborowski's GP Ballot (an aero-engined monster) achieved 26.8 secs. The motorcycles were faster; in 1925 Freddie Dixon had a time of 22.8 seconds on his 736cc Douglas (an average of 81mph!).
The first speed event up this fairly straight, loose macadam 1 in 5 gradient, was held in 1910. The last event in this early period was on 28th March 1925 and when, as a result of a mild accident to a spectator, the RAC decided to ban all motor sport on public roads.
In 1999, as part of the Risborough Festival, the Town Council, in association with the Bean Car Club, held a commemorative run up this famous hill. The current revival began in 2009 and was a fantastic success, only trumped by the Centenary in 2010. In the Centenary 350 vehicles ran the hill, additionally, there were 300 vehicles on display in the paddock. 8000 spectators came to view the hill climb and we raised a substantial sum for our local charities.
A listing of winners in the early years, together with contemporary reports of the races is in the archive. There are also photographs from the recent revivals.

| Paddy Hopkirk, now local Buckinghamshire Motor Sport Legend, was famous for being outright winner of the 1964 Monte-Carlo Rally in his Mini Cooper. He is a well known spokesperson for the motor industry being a Vice President of the British Racing Drivers Club. Paddy is also a Patron of the youth motor charity SKIDZ in High Wycombe, which is one of the local charities supported by Kop Hill Climb. | |
| Graham Schultz is Chairman of the Modena Group of companies based in Wycombe. Graham's race team has competed at the Le Mans 24hrs four times with a best position of 9th overall. He is currently running two race series with GT2 and GT3 cars. Graham has been a long term supporter and sponsor of Kop Hill Climb. | |
| Dick Skipworth is a retired local businessman and farmer, who is also a well known motorsport driver and enthusiast with a famous collection of Ecurie Ecosse racing jaguars from the fifties. He found and restored the iconic Ecurie Ecosse racing transporter often seen at many motorport events both here and in Europe. | |
| Adrian Shooter, Chairman of Chiltern Railways, is a keen motorsport enthusiast. Only last year Adrian, with his navigator wife Barbara, completed the Peking to Paris Rally in his 1930 Ford Model A. Princes Risborough was a major railway junction in the days of Chiltern Railways' forerunner the Great Western Railway, which transported to the town many thousands of spectators to see the Kop Hill Climb grand prix racing legends of the 1920's. The station weighbridge was used to weigh the entrants' vehicles as part of the scrutineering process. | |
| Countess Howe attended the Kop Hill Centenary event in 2010 as High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire and gave it one of the High Sheriff's Community Awards during her tenure in office. Earl Howe's ancestor was a well known Brooklands racing driver at the height of its fame as a Grand Prix circuit in the 1930's. | |
| Lord Hollenden, represents the Trustees of the Hampden Estate, who give permission to use their land for the spectator viewing areas and car parking facilities, both of which are essential for the running of the revival of the Kop Hill Climb. In the 1920's Kop Hill, at the height of its fame as a motorsport venue, was just a dirt track up the escarpment of the Chiltern Hills. |

Kop Hill Climb is just over 1000 metres to the summit, rises by 100 metres and has gentle bends.
It starts with a gradual slope and is 1 in 6 at the half way mark. The road then eases off before it gets even steeper at 1 in 4 just before the summit.
The finish of the run is before the summit to allow vehicles to slow down. From start to finish the run is 860 metres. The road is well surfaced.
